🍁 The Canadian promise

We're nice people. Here's the proof.

No fine print. Just how we'd want to be treated, eh?

  • πŸ”’ We don't track you. No accounts, no analytics, no creepy pixels. The only cookies here are the edible kind β€” and we're all out of those.
  • πŸ“΅ We don't see your salary. Every number is computed right in your browser. There isn't even a server it could be sent to.
  • 🧱 We didn't build a wall around your data. We just never picked it up in the first place.
  • πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ We're Canadian. We say sorry when pages load slowly, and we believe your paycheque is your business. Not ours. Not advertisers'. Not anyone's.
❓ Good questions

Tax questions, answered straight.

The stuff Canadians actually ask about their tax receipt.

Is my salary sent anywhere?

No. Every number on this page is computed in your browser, on your device. No accounts, no server uploads, no analytics β€” your paycheque never leaves your phone.

What is Tax Freedom Day?

It's the day of the year you'd stop working for the government and start earning for yourself, based on your effective tax rate. Earn $85,000 with a 25% effective rate and roughly the first quarter of the year went to tax.

Does the receipt include CPP and EI?

Yes. CPP (or QPP in Quebec) and EI come straight off your paycheque, so they're part of your total tax bite β€” even though they're payroll contributions, not income tax.

Why is Quebec's calculation different?

Quebec runs its own system: a 16.5% abatement off your federal tax, QPP instead of CPP, QPIP parental-insurance premiums, and Revenu QuΓ©bec's own tax brackets. The receipt handles all four.

How do charitable donations lower my tax?

Donations earn a federal credit β€” 14% on the first $200 and 29% above that (33% on the slice above the top tax bracket) β€” plus a provincial credit at your province's rates. Enter them under Advanced.

How does the medical expense credit work?

Only expenses above a threshold count: 3% of your income (up to a yearly cap). The amount above the threshold earns a credit at your lowest tax rate, federally and provincially.

Which tax year should I pick?

Pick the year you're filing for β€” 2026 is the current tax year. Use 2025 or 2024 for past returns or to compare how your bite changed year to year.

Is this tax advice?

No. It's a simplified estimate for employment income. Real returns can include self-employment, capital gains, rental income, and dozens of other credits. When it matters, talk to a pro.

🧾 Filing soon?

Do your actual return with these.

Two solid Canadian options when the receipt isn't enough and it's time to file.

Estimates for employment income using CRA / Revenu QuΓ©bec figures for the selected tax year, simplified model. The optional Advanced section covers RPP, union dues, child care, donations, and medical credits. Federal credits use the 14% lowest-bracket rate (2026); the temporary Bill C-15 top-up for very large credit claims is not modeled. Excludes situations beyond basic employment income (self-employment, capital gains, rental income, etc.). Not tax advice β€” your actual return may differ. Country comparisons are rough OECD tax-wedge estimates, not take-home-pay calculations.
